St Mary's Catholic Primary School

Let Your Light Shine

Welcome Message

Welcome to St Mary’s Catholic Primary school, an exciting and innovative place to learn, in a spirit of shared Gospel values.

St Mary’s is a forward thinking and vibrant school where pupils are enthusiastic and motivated to achieve endless possibilities. Our children are at the heart of every decision we make as we want them to be happy, safe and able to learn. We provide opportunities that are relevant to their needs both now and in the future.

Lessons are St Mary’s are fun and engaging. We use ‘Kagan’ strategies so children participate well and are active learners. We use the ‘Magenta Principles’ to develop deep thinking and ‘Thinking Maps’ to help children organise their thoughts. These initiatives help children to develop a thirst for learning, to be curious about the world around them and to have memorable learning experiences.

Here at St Mary’s, we have high aspirations of all and place no ceiling on learning. Where children need further support, this is offered on the same day so children do not fall behind. We focus on six key learning behaviours to help children feel inspired and have a Growth Mindset as well building life-skills such as grit, ambition and collaboration.

I am very proud of our St Mary’s team; they are dedicated, passionate and hard working. We aspire to the highest standards in everything we do and this is further embedded through our successful relationships with parents, the Parish community and other local schools. We firmly believe that education is a partnership between home and school and we value your interest and support.

The Catholic life of the school shines out through high quality RE teaching, a strong Chaplaincy Team, uplifting collective worship and our school charity work. At the centre of everything that we do are the messages and teachings of Jesus. Through his example, we strive to make St Mary’s a happy and joyful place to be ~ a school where everyone can let their light shine.

We are always very happy to welcome visits from prospective parents. This is the best way to meet the children and staff, feel the school’s warm, family atmosphere and experience the Catholic ethos which is at the heart of everything we do.

PTFA Easter Egg Bingo26Mar2021

@ In School

Unfortunately, we were unable to run our annual Easter Egg Bingo last year. We don’t want the children to miss out again on all the fun, so we are hoping to run a picture bingo in school time with each class having the opportunity to win prizes. The event is free to enter and each child will receive a small treat but we do suggest a donation of £2 per child to be made via the PTFA website to help us fund this event. In order to make this work, we also need donations of small to medium Easter eggs that we can use in each class for prizes. These can be left in the school reception in the donation box or sent in via your child’s class teacher. Thank you so much for your support and helping us put a smile on the children’s faces.
