Mental Health, Wellbeing and Early Help Support at St Mary’s
St Mary’s recognises that supporting and nurturing children’s physical and emotional health and wellbeing is absolutely fundamental. We want our children to thrive and so we place high priority on ensuring they are safe, happy and healthy. Children are encouraged to be in the present moment and to identify their feelings. Teachers use mindful classroom techniques to develop focus. We have achieved the Derbyshire STOP Anti Bullying Award, the 5 Ways to Wellbeing Award and the Healthy Schools Award.
We have a Wellbeing team who provide Early Help to families in our school. Please get in touch with school if you require support and we will be more than happy to support you and your family, or signpost you to where you can access help.
Our Wellbeing team includes:
Nicola Brown Designated Safeguarding Lead
Alex Downing Deputy Safeguarding Lead
Nicola Salt Family Resource Worker
Mary Kelly Pupil Wellbeing Mentor
Adele Price Special Educational Needs and Looked After Children Coordinator
We understand that, from time to time, you may experience financial difficulties. We are an agency for the Food Bank which means that we are able to issue vouchers to families in emergency situations. Please get in touch with us if you need support.
St Mary’s will receive from Derbyshire Police a notification of every incident that has been reported to them or known to them of domestic abuse where a child is known to be living in the household.
This is a Derbyshire Police initiative working with Derbyshire County Council Children’s Services. Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility and this is to help schools with responses to domestic abuse by helping them support children and their families exposed to or involved in domestic abuse.
This may mean talking to pupils about their experiences, raising awareness through classroom discussion and schools activities, helping victims and families by providing to them signposting information.
This school is committed to protecting children and young people and working with partners to stop domestic abuse.
