Preparing Children for Life in Modern Britain
At St. Mary’s Catholic Primary School we take very seriously our responsibility to prepare children for life in modern Britain. We ensure that the fundamental British Values are introduced, discussed and lived out through the ethos and work of the school. We have developed a 'Shine Curriculum' which is the extra-curricular work we do at St Mary’s to promote and embed our school visions and values and supports children in developing an understanding of how to be a good citizen. The Shine Curriculum includes Black History Month, Anti-Bullying Week, Environment Day, Autism Awareness Month and 'we are all unique week!' amongst others. All curriculum areas provide a vehicle for furthering understanding of these concepts and, in particular, our RE, Worship and RHE lessons provide excellent opportunities to deepen and develop understanding. Our strong Gospel values give children an excellent platform for embracing difference.
